Very often when trying to connect to my Pixel from AFT, I am getting an error "Could not connect to the device". Rebooting of the Mac often helped.
Reddit users suggest to quit Preview.app and Dropbox.app as well as all of the Google apps (like Drive or Maps, if you're using those). Surprisingly, this worked for me and trying reconnecting the Pixel again the file manager finally opens up. Oddly even if the Preview.app is not open and the AFT doesn't want to connect to the phone, launching and quitting Preview makes it work.
Additionally when the phone is connected, Android File Transfer is mounting some random .dmg files from Downloads.
This is weird. Who wrote this app? Even if it was some intern student, can't a multibillion company like Google fix the app that was having this problem for years? And if devs are unable to test it properly, don't you guys have QA or something?
